If you've just completed the build of a brand-new home, you may be patting yourself on the back and thinking about moving on to the next stage, which is populating the property with furniture, fixtures and fittings. This is certainly a detailed job, and if you don't have a natural flair for this type of thing, you may be a little apprehensive. When it comes to the different types of window treatment, you've already decided that you don't want any curtains. What categories of window blind could you consider as you go through the house room by room?

Where to Begin

From a big-picture perspective, your choice will lie between Venetian or vertical blinds, but there are many other types on the market. You don't need to choose the same type of blind for the entire property, and you can pick and choose from the various subcategories of blind as you go along.

Practically Vertical

Verticals, as the name suggests, will hang from top to bottom. Many people choose these as they are easier to work with and don't tend to get as dirty as some other options. Nevertheless, you'll have to keep all your windowsills clear, and you won't be able to fit in any ornamental plants or other items with this option.

Flexibility

If you want more flexibility then you may choose Venetian blinds, which have a relatively small footprint when they are closed or open. In fact, they're almost impossible to see when they are in the withdrawn position, and this may be the option for you if you like the minimalist look.

Venetian Choice

Venetians come in either aluminium or wood, with the latter being a much more substantial choice. On the other hand, aluminium Venetian blinds are available in a variety of different colours and textures, and you can once again pick and choose from room to room. For example, if one room tends to be rather dark, then you could choose a brightly coloured blind to counter this. If you like the more modern look, you can choose textured Venetians.

Night Owl

Some people like to sleep in total darkness, and in this case, a vertical blind would probably be best. Consider this choice if one of your family members is more of a night owl and likes to sleep during the day.
